Going on Vacation!

This is the last blog post you will get until early November.

I'm leaving University Z for the much sunnier, happier, paradise-like location of Molokai, Hawaii.

Here are the sites I've been visiting in preparation for my trip.

I plan on snorkeling, hiking, napping, sunbathing, swimming, and generally having a wonderful relaxing time. See you all in couple of weeks. Maybe.

If I spot a help wanted sign at the public library, I am putting in an application. If that happens, I might become the Tropical Librarian, or the Sunny Librarian, or the Hula Librarian, or you know--just the Happy Librarian.

Aloha!

Letter to Secret Society

Dear Secret Society,

I really hope those two large sheet cakes were meant for Library X and not delivered to the wrong location. I looked for a secret message from you instructing me of the purpose and meaning behind their delivery. I waited for your voice-disguised call. I checked my email for encrypted messages. But you gave me nothing to go on.

I debated a long time (about ten minutes) on what to do. I took a poll to see if I should give the cake away without confirmation from you guys. The overwhelming majority (all three students) thought I should give the cake away. So that's what I did. I set a table out, put a table cloth down (tres chic), sliced the cakes up some, and then made an announcement that there was free cake. The cakes lasted ten minutes.

I really hope you meant for those cakes to come to Library X and not to some secret meeting at another location. I hope you all aren't standing around in your hooded robes waiting for your cakes to start the party.

Hugs and Kisses,
The Vampire Librarian

P.S. I saved a piece if you want it.

Pencil Videos

American Libraries Direct, the e-newsletter of the ALA, mentioned the below video about golf pencils. It expalins where golf pencils came from, but not why! But it's still a fun little video, and while I was poking around, I found a couple of other very entertaining pencil themed videos. Hope you enjoy!

Shhh Images

I collected a lot of 'Shhh' images for a flier idea that never happened. I liked the images so here they are.

The idea was to make a lot of small one image fliers with the following text underneath:

THANK YOU FOR WHISPERING,
but please keep conversations to a minimum. If you
need to speak for an extended amount of time, please move to another floor.

Whispered conversations, while not as intrusive as normal conversations,
may still disturb those studying around you. Please be considerate of your classmates.

Thank you,
The Library Staff

I thought they might help during exams on the quiet floor, but no one seemed real enthused with my idea, so they got buried on my hard drive until I was poking around tonight. I really like the first image, and I thought the one of the two actors from SVU was very appropriate for Library X.

If anyone wants to use them, have at them. Just right click and save.

Images are from:

1. I think I got this image from deviantART, but I can't find it anywhere online now.

2. Stepford Wives

3. SVU promotion photo.

4. Shh, We're Writing the Constitution by Jean Fritz

5. I cannot find this image again. Don't know where I got it.

6. deviantART by Sine Fabula though I know I snatched it somewhere else. It's been used on the web several places.

7. David Boring by Daniel Clowes

8. This seems like an ubiquitous Library image. Am I wrong?

(If you are the owner of an image and do not want it posted, please email me and I shall remove it.)
